nosara, costa rica

nosara, costa rica

Located on the nicoya peninsula in costa rica, nosara has some of the most stunning beaches i have ever seen, beautifully preserved nature, great surf, amazing food and a laid-back atmosphere.

where to eat

nosara is abundant with great places to eat, most of which are walking distance if you're staying in town.

go juice

this is my favorite place to go after a walk on the beach in the morning for a quick juice.

rolling waves

perfect for a morning matcha or coffee. i can't say that the quality of the matcha they use here is as good as ours, but alternatively you can bring our matcha in our very travel-friendly canister and ask if they can use that to make a frothy yummy matcha for you.

la ventanita

i almost don't want to mention this place because is was such an underrated spot in town. great food and never crowded.

harmony bar

all time favorite place to hang out in the shade during the middle of the day, when the sun is at its strongest.

destiny

this place is super popular for breakfast and lunch. if you're staying at la negra surf hotel, this is where you will be served breakfast, if you choose to have that included in your booking.

al chile

this place serves mexican food. i didn't get a chance to try it, but looked great.

norte nosara

best açai bowl in town.

coyol

didn't get a chance to try this place either, but the food im told is amazing and the view speaks for itself.

la luna

not in nosara main town but located on playa pelada. amazing place for a sunset dinner.

luv burger

ended up having dinner here more than i like to admit. their vegan burgers were so good, i craved them every time it came to having dinner.

naked foods

el jardin

didn't try this place, as it was closed every time we went. placed right in the center of town and looked nice.

where to stay

there are so many great places to stay in nosara, I could honestly come up with a much longer list, but these are some of the hotels that stuck out to me.

la negra surf hotel

there are so many great places to stay in nosara. I stayed at la negra surf hotel, which I loved. the staff was super friendly and the location was great and first-row to beach and surf. Would stay here again.

the harmony hotel

by far the most detailed though-out hotel in nosara, and would love to stay here when i come back some day.

sendero hotel

very picturesque hotel and one of the newest additions to the town. great location and very close to the beach.

norte nosara

closer to town, yet still tucked away, i visited this place a couple of times for their açai bowl, which i highly recommend.

sunset shack hotel

what to do

surfing at playa guiones

playa nosara is packed with surf breaks everywhere, which also means that surfers are, for the most part, very spread out here.

i used the surf school at la negra surf hotel for surf instruction and board rentals, and highly recommend.

morning walks on playa guiones

my morning walks on the beach here were almost my favourite part of the day. the jet-lag meant that i woke up at 5am every morning, which was the perfect time to go for a morning walk.

sunset at playa guiones

honestly, this is a daily must. every night the whole town, at least this is what it feels like, gathers on the beach to watch the sunset, surf, do yoga, meet up with friends. this was my favourite way to end each day.

bike to playa pelada

rent a bike in town and bike to playa pelada. i should warn though, the roads/drivers are not very bike friendly, but it's doable. once you arrive, go for a walk on the beach and before you head back to town, go for something to eat at la luna.

when to go

I went during the month of february, which i found to be the perfect time, as it was sunny all day long and surf is smaller during that time of year.

other recommendations

la tiendita bookshop

need something to read, located inside the harmony hotel, this cute little shop is worth a visit.
